The Teaching Channel
The Teaching Channel is a video showcase—on the Internet and TV—of innovative and effective teaching practices in America’s schools.
The organization asked Josh Daniel/Content Inventions to direct and produce a series of web videos for teachers demonstrating how to teach ELA Common Core in the classroom. Content Inventions produced over two hours of video broken into twenty short documentary segments, on teaching strategies in elementary, middle, and high school.
The Process: We started development by working with educational advisors and teachers on how to demonstrate the Common Core strategies through classroom lessons and video. We developed educational and shooting outlines, and carefully planned shooting in advance. We videoed three classes, conducting three-camera shoots, over a six-month period. We showcased teachers working with their students on developing skills within the Common Core lexicon. All the videos used the style of teacher as narrator, illuminated by real scenes of working with students. Once shoots were complete, we viewed footage, wrote scripts and moved into post-production. We conducted a review process to evaluate the communication of educational goals through a compelling documentary story, and then moved to completion and delivery.
